The Beach Boys' memorabilia on the album cover was contributed by Phil Spector.[264] In response to their finances being shaken by the demands of Beach Boys' albums, the Pet Shop Boys used Spector's memorabilia as a \"commodity\" in order to raise money.[265][nb 10] Spector provided them with cover artwork for a single, \"She's Leaving Home\", that included Spector's name on it.[267] According to Tom Moon, the band used Spector's artwork because he was a \"major influence on them\".[268]
Two of Pet Sounds' most well-known pieces were the extended, dub-reggae version of \"God Only Knows\" and the song that closes the album, \"Wouldn't It Be Nice\".[137] The track that closes the Pet Sounds album is a pseudo-flamenco song titled \"My Love\".
Pet Sounds was produced at Capitol Recording Studio in Hollywood, and was engineered by Brian Wilson, who was joined by Gil Askey.[56] Wilson handled the album's performance and production.[57][58] When he received his first pressing of Pet Sounds, Wilson noticed the opening track, the well-known \"God Only Knows\", which he described as \"a grand, friendly, roseate, gooey-subdued, [and] piano-bound\"[53] sound — the type of song that he had hoped for to be the album's opening number.[59] Joined by his wife Marilyn, Wilson listened to the album many times over and considered his finished composition \"a combination of rock music and classical music\".[60] Finding the album's musical elements similar to early Beatles songs such as \"Yesterday\", Marvin Gaye's \"What's Going On\" and the Dave Clark Five's \"Anytime\",[33][61][62][63] he remarked to Business Week that, \"She was [Marilyn's] idea [of the lyrics] for the tune — my idea for the album. She had the idea for the music and I incorporated it into Pet Sounds.\"[33] 7211a4ac4a
